This year's Beyond Zero marathon was held within the weekend at Nyayo Stadium which saw a number of prominent persons including Deputy President, William Ruto, CS Interior, Joseph Nkaiserry, CS foreign affairs, Amina Mohamed, Supreme Court Judge, Njoki Ndung’u among others participate in the running for health event.
The marathon is initiated by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta aimed at improving maternal health care in Kenya.
Little-known Moses Kosgey and seasoned runner Georgina Rono were the respective men and women’s winners of the second edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon taking home Sh750,000 while runners up got Sh500,000 each and third-placed finishers Sh250,000 each.
Some 10km contestants found themselves stretching to 21km after they missed the turning points that were not clear. A good example is the deputy President William Ruto, who had registered for the 10km race.
Beyond Zero is among the country's fastest growing marathons and by the look of thing the marathons will soon be among the biggest events in Kenya.
