DON’T BE OLD FASHIONED, REGISTER YOUR BUSINESS TODAY!!

It is a sunny morning here in Nairobi. Everyone is busy or at least has something to make them assume that appearance of been busy. Businesses are opening up, the ‘bodaboda’ guys stand in small groups, conversing probably about yesterday’s unfortunate incidence. (Tear gas). I am walking to the office with a friend come business partner. We talk about news, people, and politics. He does not like politics like I do. He then introduces the subject of advertisement.

We have not had such a bad month like previous Januarys have been. But still more needs to be done to reach our quarterly target. He suggests a loan to fund the advertisement campaign, I am for selling part of the ownership. Either way, it appears, our business will not have a hard time raising the funds. Our issue is the choice of advertisement tool. Both of us though agree that we must include the two tenders we have supplied to boost our advertisement campaign.

Our business is two years old. It is in its third year.  I am 25, my friend is 23. I am telling you with this rate of growth, at the age of 30, you will see us somewhere. Not that I am bragging, I want to share the secret behind our business success. Government tenders. You have heard about the changes in the government tendering process, guess what, it is true. The government is awarding 30% of all tenders to businesses owned by youths.  We have been lucky to supply two at least. We hope for more even this year given our deliverance on the previous ones.

All you need to deep a hand in this common pool is a registered business. Have you registered your business? Guys around town are doing it for people at some fee, you can as well walk yourself and register. After registration, make sure you file your KRA returns monthly so that you can be able to get your compliance certificate. After this you are good to go. People ignorant of these benefits have argued against business registration, but think about it keenly in terms of the benefits and I am sure they outweigh the costs.
